What counts as a case.
One top-level folder is one case. Subfolders inside it are part of the same case and cost nothing extra.

When the year starts.
The year starts the day that folder is created, and you can see every case's open date in the app.

When it stops.
Close the case and the charge stops with it — a closed case is never renewed. It stays readable and searchable for as long as you have an account; it simply stops accepting new documents and changes.
